How Does One Publish Their Academic Writing?
This post is based on a response I sent to a colleague regarding the publishing process. This post provides some comments on this topic and
much more importantly, links to many sources on this topic in the form
of database search results.
There is a wide range of publication, so first one needs to decide upon the medium, book, scholarly journal article, trade press article or popular article. The topic will help decide the appropriate medium.
Secondly one must decide on what they are going to write about and why it is important to write about this and why what you are writing is a major or important contribution. Part of your writing may need to be sales, telling your readers why they really want to know about what you are telling them.
Have a mental or written outline about what you want to write and follow a logical progression in the writing you create.
Get known in the field or fields that need to read your planned writings.
Join national or international Listservs or discussion groups in these fields or create them if they do not exist and share answers and to discussions and questions on these lists.
Provide short bibliographies on these lists on hot topics of interest as well. Get a reputation outside the walls.
Another way to get into the game is to write and publish book reviews

Since any writing must be quality in everything from grammar to content,
the new section of my guide at the bottom has grammar and punctuation information sources. There are links to specific websites and database search results for this content

Then there is what to do about saying what you have learned from someone else in terms of intellectual property issues
